There are two types of introductory consultations at our Centre:

Medical Eye Condition Assessments (Corneal Problems and Cataracts):

  • Referral from your current eye specialist or doctor
    • referral is required if the problem is medically related:  cataract, corneal disease, glaucoma, retinal disorder or other inflammatory conditions of the eye.  Please note that we do not provide nonmedical or preventive eye examinations at our clinic.
    • upon receipt of the referral, we will confirm the appointment with your current eye care specialist or doctor and have them contact you with the details
    • click here for the forms you will require before arrival at our Centre: be sure to bring them with you at the time of your consultation

Surgical Vision Correction Assessments:

  • Schedule directly through your personal phone call to 254-6007 or 1-800-976-3937 or click here to our contact page
    • for Elective Surgical Vision Correction consultations only
    • click here for the forms you will require before arrival at our Centre: be sure to bring them with you at the time of your consultation
  • Referral from your current eye specialist or doctor
    • if referred for a Surgical Vision Correction procedure, we will contact you directly upon receipt of your eye specialist's referral letter
    • whether he/she simply recommends us or refers you to us directly, we suggest you ask your current eye specialist to forward your most recent examination findings by fax to our office at 254-5887 prior to your assessment. It will provide us with a comparison of current vision and assist with establishing stability of vision

Your preoperative assessment involves a comprehensive consultation with our only Surgical Vision Correction specialist, Dr. Thad Demong. Before scheduling your appointment, you should be aware of the following:

  • the appointment will take approximately 2 ½ hours and includes:
    • all preoperative diagnostic testing
    • the consultation with Dr. Demong
    • the consultation with our registered nurse counselor
  • preoperative assessments are performed primarily in the afternoon, with occasional morning appointments available, and are available Monday or Tuesday of most weeks
  • we will dilate your pupils with drops prior to your tests and the drops will remain effective for several hours after the consultation. This will create:
    • sensitivity to light. Please bring sunglasses to wear following your appointment
    • disruption of near vision. You will experience difficulty with reading and computer work for several hours.  Some people feel most comfortable arranging a driver for the appointment.
  • laser surgery can be scheduled within one to three weeks of the consultation in most cases, unless you wish to delay. Your preoperative assessment is considered valid for a 6 month period.
    • Dr. Demong performs laser surgery on Thursdays
  • lens surgery can be scheduled within two to four weeks of the consultation in most cases, unless you wish to delay. Your preoperative assessment is considered valid for a 6 month period.
    • Dr. Demong performs lens surgery on Wednesdays and some Thursdays
  • if you use soft contact lenses, you need to refrain from wearing them for at least 2 days prior to your assessment and surgery. Contacts can distort the shape of the cornea, rendering preoperative readings inaccurate so it is vital that you follow instructions. You will need to have a relatively current prescription in your glasses to enable you to function during this period. If you currently wear gas permeable or hard contact lenses, the term to remain out of your contacts may be extended an additional 1 to 2 weeks or more. We will provide additional information when you schedule your appointment.
  • Surgical Vision Correction procedures are not covered by public insurance programs. There will be a fee for the diagnostics performed during your consultation, quoted at the time of scheduling your appointment. Although a range of prices for the surgical procedure will be quoted at that time as well, final confirmation of the cost of your procedure cannot be provided until Dr. Demong has examined your eyes and made a specific recommendation. Your diagnostic fee is applied toward the price of surgery.
