Dr. Thaddeus Demong
The most important decision you will make when undergoing Surgical Vision Correction is the selection of your eye surgeon. As not all surgeons provide the same level
of expertise and judgment, nor do they have the same outcomes, your challenge is to find the most capable eye surgeon for your optimal visual outcome.
At Demong Associate Eyecentre, your surgeon is
Dr. Thaddeus Demong, a fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgery specialist for over 30 years. Since 1991, he’s helped over 12,000 patients see well with Laser Vision Correction and delivers world class treatments and results right here in Calgary. As one of Canada’s most respected refractive surgeons,
he treats those with a full range of focussing errors, including basic through highly complex corrections.
Dr. Demong believes the best results can only be attained with the best techniques and technology and is dedicated to using the finest innovations to complement his surgical expertise. So committed is he to ongoing development that he operates the only Laser Centre in Alberta to replace its treatment laser eight times as each new generation of technology offers a greater level of safety and precision.
Operating out of Rocky Mountain Surgery Centre, his privately owned surgical and laser suites, he has acquired the first fully integrated high speed Wavelight EX500 Laser System in North America, offering wavefront optimized treatment with every procedure and custom options for the maximum range of focusing errors. Combined with the Wavelight FS200 Femtosecond Laser to create the surgical flap for LASIK procedures, they provide a higher level of safety and accuracy than ever possible in the past. Your result? Simply better vision.
If you undergo Lens Replacement Surgery rather than laser surgery, similar leading edge technology and techniques are used. On September 11, 2013, Dr. Demong performed the first laser assisted refractive lens surgery in Alberta, using the most sophisticated laser system in the World, the LenSx Femtosecond Refractive Lens Laser. Combined with the most advanced foldable acrylic lens implants, more people will be able to eliminate dependency upon spectacle vision correction than ever before. These lenses are from the Acrysof Lens family, used world wide since 1993. He was involved in the initial research of those lenses and has adopted new models as each new modification produced improvements in visual outcomes and safety. These lenses are biocompatible and offer features for nearly every type of focusing problem. Most recently he introduced the Cachet Phakic Lens Insertion for those with very high nearsightedness whose corneal thickness cannot support laser surgery. He is one of five Canadian investigators of this lens and became the first eye surgeon in Canada to offer it to those outside the research project.
As an advocate for informed consent and advanced standards of care, he acted in an advisory capacity to
the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons in the development of laser surgery standards throughout the province. He continues to exceed those standards at his private Centre.
In addition to elective Surgical Vision Correction, Dr. Demong also performs other types of surgery, including cataract removal, corneal transplants, DALK and DSAEK surgeries and Corneal Collagen CrossLinking.
We offer full details of these procedures at the time of consultation which can be arranged through referral from your optometrist.
