Whether the first phase of your treatment involves IntraLASIK or PRK, At his Calgary Centre, Dr. Demong will transform your vision in the second phase using Wavefront Optimization, the foundation of all treatments with the Wavelight Allegretto Eye Q laser . He will customize your treatment even further using the Wavefront Guided mode or Topography Guided mode. The Wavefront Guided mode uses a Wavefront generated template to guide the treatment beam while the Topography Guided mode uses the treatment defined by the Oculyzer topography system. Dr. Demong selects the Custom Laser Surgery treatment most suitable for your unique needs but every treatment starts with Wavefront Optimization for the safest, most accurate results possible.

Following treatment with nonWavefront lasers, many people reported problems with glare, haloes and diminished vision, particularly when their pupils dilate under dim lighting conditions. It was apparent something was creating distortions that affected quality of vision, even though acuity in bright lighting was excellent. Some of those problems were related to dryness but we now know most could be attributed to fine irregularities known as higher order aberrations. These irregularities tend to be concentrated at the periphery of your centre of vision, where the transition, or blend zone, is created during laser treatment. Although we all have some degree of higher order aberrations, they become more pronounced after nonWavefront laser treatment or when the laser treatment includes a large transition zone.
Now, Wavelight introduces Wavefront Optimization to deliver a new level of clarity and security while delivering true Custom Laser Surgery. The Allegretto Eye Q has been engineered to consider the unique curvature and biomechanics of each eye, using Wavefront Optimization to create a larger, smoother curve of correction as nature intended. With a larger true correction zone beyond the size of your dilated pupil and a minimal blend zone, every Allegretto treatment improves your vision under all lighting conditions, minimizing the impact of higher order aberrations.
Wavelight also led the way in the development of Wavefront Guided technology, designed to detect and remove higher order aberrations along with your defocus error. Wavefront guided technology requires highly sophisticated devices, working in perfect synchronization, to scan the eye, detect its unique fingerprint, track all movement during treatment and control its ultrafine treatment beam. The Allegretto takes this sophistication to a new level of safety, accuracy, speed and customization.
In Wavefront Guided mode, the Allegretto delivers the desired treatment using a template generated from the Wavefront Scan taken at the time of your preoperative assessment. The laser detects the unique fingerprint of your eye and matches it to the template. Then, robust eye tracking technology follows every minute movement of your eyes to ensure the treatment is delivered precisely where it has been defined, within microns of accuracy. Perfect Pulse technology monitors and regulates the energy of every pulse throughout your treatment, ensuring safety and consistency.
