Laser Vision Enhancement Considerations
A Word about Enhancement:
Dr. Demong's enhancement rate using the IntraLase and Wavefront Optimized treatment ranges between 1% and 3%, most heavily weighted among high nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic corrections.
Enhancement surgery will not be considered until Dr. Demong is confident that postoperative vision is completely stable, often reserved for at least 6 months, and possibly up to a full year, following the initial procedure. Once vision is stable, a diagnostic examination is performed and then forwarded for Dr. Demong's review. The decision to perform enhancement is based on the likelihood of improvement, the safety of enhancement and personal expectations.
The following factors are considered prior to recommending enhancement:
- is visual acuity affected by other factors better treated with nonsurgical measures?
- is there potential to improve vision, based on the difference between visual acuity without corrective lenses compared to with corrective lenses?
- can the remaining corneal thickness support the additional treatment required/ desired?
- is it likely the resulting corneal curvature will support a good quality of vision?
- does the desired result represent a significant improvement over the current level of vision?
- is the request based on a desire for perfection?
- are the risks clearly understood and accepted?
