Diagnostic Technology

Surgical planning begins with a detailed diagnostic analysis of your vision, and most specifically, your cornea, since laser surgery IS corneal surgery. Our technican will conduct the diagnostic scans prior to Dr. Demong's examination. Then, once he has completed his examination and has reviewed all the information gathered to that point, Dr. Demong will make his recommendation for your treatment and answer your questions.

Allegro Analyzer

Wavefront Analyzer

The Analyzer is the scanning device used to determine the location and degree of higher order aberrations as well as the amount of defocus error. It is an integral part of the Wavefront Guided treatment, forming the "Capture" phase. The technology used in this analysis is referred to as Tscherning Principle.

It scans your entire visual system when you rest your head on the chin rest and gaze into the lens. There is no contact with the surface of your eye. The Analyzer projects a fine grid of 168 beams into your eye and detects the pattern on the retina of the eye. This pattern is then analyzed by the device and a computerized image is generated for Dr. Demong's review. It is very fast and uses the same landmarking technology found in the Allegretto EyeQ laser.

 Allegro Oculyzer

Topographic Oculyzer Before Wavefront scanning was available, surgeons relied on a corneal topography system to provide an objective analysis of the amount of correction required during laser treatment. It scans only the cornea and remains a critical component of your preoperative assessment. Combined with the Wavefront scan, it shows the surgeon how much of your vision problem is linked directly to the cornea and how much to other parts of the eye. It also provides a topographical map of the cornea, revealing the exact shape of astigmatism while providing vital information about the corneal curvature and overall thickness. Certain topographical patterns may indicate early corneal disease as well and this is one reason why we believe the expertise of a corneal surgeon is important when considering laser surgery. A corneal surgeon has the expertise to analyze the topographical images and readily identify those early warning indicators.

When you rest your head on the chin rest and gaze into the cone, you will note a series of very bright concentric rings. There is no contact with the surface of your eye. A series of images will be taken and analyzed and a computerized image is generated for Dr. Demong's review.

iTrace Vision Analysis System

The iTrace plays an important role in any Surgical Vision Assessment as it helps to identify the fine irregularities in the visual system, defining the type, degree and location.  It also helps Dr. Demong determine if problems exist externally on the surface of the eye or internally so he can investigate the involved area in more detail.
 
The image is obtained when you lean forward against the forehead rest and gaze into the camera.  There is no contact with the surface of your eye.  A series of images will be taken and a computerized report is generated for Dr. Demong's analysis.

Visante OCT

Dr. Demong will want the most detailed information available regarding the thickness of your cornea, especially if you require a large amount of correction. The Visante scans the cornea and the iris area to provide that. Combined with the thickness measurement from the Oculyzer, he can then confidently determine the amount of correction your cornea can safely undergo. It is particularly valuable when considering enhancement surgery.

The image is obtained when you lean forward against the forehead rest and gaze into the lens. There is no contact with the surface of your eye. The laser scan produces a high resolution image of your cornea with measurements at multiple points in the center of your vision. It also displays the shape and measurements of structures inside the front portion of the eye known as the "anterior segment". The image is then generated for Dr. Demong's review.

Konan NONCON ROBO Specular Microscope

The final measurement of your cornea involves a photograph of the lining of the cornea. The device shows the shape of corneal cells, the number and whether or not there are irregularities that may indicate early corneal disease not detected by any other device. Using this information, Dr. Demong can determine whether the health of your cornea will support recovery after surgery.

You will rest your head in the chin rest and gaze into the lens. There is no contact with the surface of your eye. The system analyzes the cells, calculates the number at various points and generates a report for Dr. Demong's review.
