The most important decision you will make when undergoing Surgical Vision Correction is the selection of your surgeon. At Demong Associate Eyecentre, your surgeon is Dr. Thaddeus Demong, fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgery specialist. For over 25 years, he's been performing corneal and other refractive procedures, and since 1991, he's helped over 12,000 patients see well with Laser Vision Correction. He treats patients with a full range of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, including simple through the most complex corrections. Complications, should they arise, are managed directly by Dr. Demong. So whether you require minimal routine or extensive follow up care postoperatively, you'll be in very capable hands.
Dr. Demong is dedicated to using technological innovations to extend his surgical expertise. He believes the best outcome can only be achieved when the surgeon can deliver the finest level of skill and judgment combined with the most precise technology available. When laser surgery was introduced to North America in the late 1980's, he became one of the first 50 surgeons in North America to qualify as a Laser Vision Correction surgeon, trained by a true pioneer and leader in the industry, Dr. Margeurite McDonald. One of the developers of the technology, Dr. Stephen Trokel was at his side the first day he performed laser surgery in his clinic. Since that time, he has continued to refine his technique and embrace technological advances. In fact, he has the only laser centre in Alberta to replace its treatment laser six times as each new generation offers a greater level of precision.
Operating out of Rocky Mountain Surgery Centres, his privately owned surgical and laser suites located adjacent to the office, he has acquired the first LADAR4000 Wavefront Laser System, approved for wavefront treatment of nearsightedness and astigmatism. Combined with the IntraLASE FS-60 Laser to create the surgical flap for LASIK procedures, he provides leading edge technology to Albertans. He uses IntraLase for all LASIK treatments and Wavefront treatment for all corrections within the FDA approved ranges, as these offer the finest precision available. The result? Simply better vision.
If you undergo lens replacement surgery rather than laser surgery, similar leading edge technology and techniques are used. He uses only tinted foldable acrylic lenses, developed on the Acrysof Lens platform that has been used world wide since 1993. The latest lenses are available in several different models to meet your individual needs: a multifocal model for a full range of near to distant vision, a toric model for astigmatism, and a single distance model. Using the Infiniti Aqualase Surgical System, he removes the natural lens gently and safely, preparing the area for the lens implant.
He is dedicated to raising the standards of care for his patients and others undergoing Surgical Vision Correction. Acting in an advisory capacity, he provided laser surgery recommendations related to surgeon training, staff qualifications and training, equipment maintenance, and sterilization techniques to the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons. In January, 2004, several of those recommendations became the standard for all Alberta Centres and surgeons, enforceable by the College, but he continues to exceed those standards at his own Centre.
Dr. Demong performs preoperative consultations, IntraLASIK, PRK or Lens Replacement Surgery and one-day postoperative examinations. He also provides your postoperative support until his personal expertise is no longer required. Subsequent examinations are performed by your own optometrist in consultation and collaboration with Dr. Demong.
